Within the framework of the celebrations for the solemnity of the Assumption, whose central day is on August 15, the Primada Archdiocese of Mexico summoned a great procession with the different images of the Virgin Mary that are venerated in Mexico City for Saturday 16 in the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Dedicated to this Marian invocation, the full name of the main Catholic temple of the Mexican capital is Metropolitan Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the Heavens of Mexico City.

In an interview with ACI Press, Canon P. Eduardo Mercado Guzmán, secretary of the Metropolitan Cabildo, invited all parishes and communities to participate carrying his Marian image.
He said that the day will begin at 2:30 p.m. (local time) with the reception of the images from various parishes of the Archdiocesan territory and at 4:00 p.m. the “Holy Mass of Marian Devotions” will be held.

The priest stressed that, beyond its devotional dimension, this encounter has a deep spiritual sense, because “the Virgin Mary is a way to reach Jesus; that is the missionary purpose of the Virgin.”
In Mexico City, four Marian devotions symbolically protect the city, according to the archdiocese. To the north is the Virgin of Guadalupe, in the Tepeyac, considered the devotional heart of Latin America. To the south, Our Lady of Piedad is a symbol of comfort in suffering. To the East, in Iztapalapa, the Virgen de la Bala recalls that, even in the midst of violence, Maria protects us from evil. And to the west, Our Lady of Remedies, from her sanctuary in Naucalpan, offers a shelter in times of adversity.
Although the call is open to all the Marian advocations of the city, a special participation of parishes and chapels of the Historic Center is expected, such as Our Lady of Pilar, Our Lady of Solitude, Our Lady of Loreto, the Virgen de los Dolores, the Virgin of the Assumption and the Immaculate Conception.
Other activities
In preparation, the cathedral has organized a novenarian with the participation of the eight pastoral areas of the Archdiocese.
On Thursday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m., the eve will be held and, at 7:00 p.m., the Conference “María Asunta, Lighthouse of Hope of the Church”, by the auxiliary bishop Luis Manuel Pérez Raygoza.
On Friday 15, solemnity of the assumption, the solemn laudes will be prayed at 11:00 hours, followed by the capitular mass. At 12:00, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, Archbishop of Mexico, will preside over the solemn mass.
The procession of Saturday 16 will be the festive closure. The P. Mercado described it as “a true parade of Marian images” that, for the third consecutive year, will bring together faithful throughout the city.
