In an interview with ACI PRENDA, Fr. Jonathan Arellano Verdejo, executive secretary of the ECLACI, explained that there was already an evangelical 1998, however, the liturgy, being a “living entity, which is being developed little by little, which is enriched over the years” the need to update it was seen.

This new edition was enriched with the incorporation of recent parties and solemnities. Unlike the previous one, it now includes readings for sacraments and sacramental, in addition to unifying the titles of the celebrations with those of the Roman Missal and the Lectionaries. Likewise, the evangelical appointment corresponding to every Sunday of the liturgical year was added in the index to facilitate its use.

The priest reiterated that it is not a new liturgical book, however, he indicated that with this edition what is sought is “collaborating with a continuous rediscovery of the beauty of the liturgy, not as a ritual aestheticism, which is pleased only in the formality of the outer rite, but to promote a real encounter with the teacher”.

He also said that another of the objectives is “to contribute to the efforts of seeking modelic celebrations.” “The liturgy, with its characteristic symbolic-ritual language, wants to put men in contact with God, from visible to the invisible,” he added.

“The new evangeliary is a real sign of the presence of Christ in the midst of his community, which speaks to his people, who feeds and transforms him, that invites him to the mission and repentance, to continue establishing in the midst of us his kingdom of love and peace,” said Fr. Arellano.

“For love of liturgy”

During the presentationMons. Sánchez Espinosa stressed that the work was done “for the love of the Church and for the love of the liturgy.” He explained that a group of specialists gave the task of “updating and enriching the edition that already had.”

The Archbishop of Puebla highlighted the importance of having this volume to “contribute to the care of the word of the word. For every liturgical action, when the Gospel is proclaimed, it is Christ who speaks. He is present among us.”

The new edition has the decree of Recognition y Confirmation Signed by Cardinal Arthur Roche, Prefect of Dicastery for the Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

This launch adds to other recent projects of the ECLACI, such as the book of the Masses of the Virgin Mary Published in March, and Mons. Sánchez Espinoza also pointed out that it is part of a broader program that contemplates the launch of books for the exorcism ritual, the prayer of the faithful and the ritual for the taking of possession of parish priests and bishops, in addition to the next amendment of the Roman Missal.

The new edition of the Evangeliary will be available, as of October 15, in the Libraries of Good Press, and in some other Catholic bookstores. Similarly, it can already be acquired through the digital platforms of Amazon and Mercado Libre.
