“Numerous local brothers and faithful participated in this moment of grace, marked by a deep reflection on the priestly vocation and the service in the Holy Land,” says the CTS in its Official Web site Official.

In the midst of the celebration, the Patriarch asked the new priests to “not become protagonists” of their ministry, but rather “humble instruments of salvation, which is only in Christ.”

The Venezuelan priest Rito Mendoza formed in several Latin American countries before completing his studies in the Holy Land. He solemnly professed his votes in 2020 and was then ordered deacon.

For his part, Fr. Juan David Rodríguez was born in Bogotá and trained as an architect. He is currently an attached conical of the San Salvador Fraternity, a member of the Archaeological and Active Commission in the Pastoral Services of Jerusalem.

Cardinal Pizzaballa encouraged the three priests to “put in the center of his life not himself, but his relationship with Christ,” holding himself in prayer, the dignified celebration of the sacraments and the testimony lived.

“The sacraments are not property or privilege of you; they belong to Christ and the Church. Let the person of Christ and the beauty of the Church shine in your ministry,” said the patriarch.

In the example of St. Peter, he also encouraged them to be rocks in their communities, which “will take the form of Christ only if you are your image.”

“They will be built on Pedro’s rock if you remain united and faithful to that rock. There are no other paths. Any other reference in your priestly ministry, if you are not centered on Christ, it will be vanity and will remain sterile,” said Cardinal Pizzaballa.

“There will be days in which this ministry that fills them today with joy will become heavy, in which they will weigh loneliness and fatigue. Your own passion time will arrive (…), but it will become a path of salvation if they are inspired not in flesh and blood, but in God, if they give space to their word of life, if the sacraments that the nourish they first celebrate, before your communities, if your priestly life is built on a relationship. Faithful with Jesus, ”he added.

The cardinal concluded his homily entrusting the priesthood of these three men to the Immaculate Virgin and invited them to always pray “for this little church of Jerusalem”, regardless of where they take them their mission.
