They hold an event with a bishop in Congress due to unofficial cancellation

The Enraizados Foundation maintains the event “What the Catholic faith contributes to Spain”, with the presence of the Bishop Emeritus of Alcalá de Henares, Mons. Juan Antonio Reig, in the face of information about its cancellation by the Congress, although there is no official communication of the decision, as the organizers denounce to ACI Prensa.

“We have no official confirmation. This is the first irregularity that we have learned about through the media,” José Castro, president and founder of Enraizados, a civil entity that aims to bring the Catholic faith to the public sphere, denounces in a telephone conversation.

“We maintain the act. We are not going to stop doing something for which we have authorization,” stresses Castro, who in any case announces judicial actions of a Contentious-Administrative nature so that justice prevents the alleged cancellation that they consider “unfair, discriminatory and without reason and that has already caused irreparable harm.”

The Christian Lawyers Foundation will take charge of the judicial claim, understanding that “the cancellation of the event just 4 days before its celebration represents a violation of fundamental rights such as religious, ideological and expression freedom.”

In a statement they also denounce that “the forum was authorized in May by unanimous vote of the Congress Board” and that the cancellation “lacks sufficient motivation”, which means “revoking a firm act without supervening cause.”

Castro does not rule out that the strategy followed by Congress tries to “deactivate the people” by announcing a de facto cancellation through the media a few days before its celebration, scheduled for next Monday, October 13.

“It could be the case that no one wants to sign this because it is a completely illegal issue, because whoever does so would have a responsibility by assuming that arbitrary decision,” reflects the president of Enraizados.

On the other hand, in the absence of official communication, Castro trusts that the recourse to justice will highlight that this situation puts the association in a clear situation of defenselessness.

The information published yesterday in media related to the Government indicates that the decision to reverse the approval of the act in the Clara Campoamor Room of Congress would respond to three reasons: an alleged concealment of information at the time of making the request, that during the act there was going to be an “apology for Francoism” and that “anti-constitutional slogans” were going to be disseminated.

In this regard, Castro explains that all the information required for this type of requests was offered and that throughout this process he has been in constant contact with Congress officials, communicating the confirmation of the speakers and accepting the considerations regarding internal rules of the Lower House, specifically regarding the posters announcing the event.

Regarding the accusation of a possible “apology for Francoism” or that “anti-constitutional slogans” were uttered, Castro points out that “we are not going to talk about Francoism, neither for better nor for worse, because it is not the object of the colloquium” and it is not planned to expose any slogans against the Magna Carta, “because we are going to talk about how Catholics and the faith can help political, social and cultural life, without concrete allusions to the right positive”.

On the other hand, Castro emphasizes that for the preparation of this event a request was made by the association, without the assistance of any parliamentary group, “precisely because we did not want it to be a partisan thing. In fact, all the deputies of Congress are invited.”

Planned development of the event

The program of the event, which is scheduled to take place in the Clara Campoamor Room of the Congress of Deputies, is structured in two parts.

The first will be led by the Civil Administrator of the State and Principal Administrator of the European Commission Javier Montero, who will address the origins and cultural project of the European Union and Bishop Reig Pla, who will offer “a vision of the recent evolution of Spain and the relationship between faith and public life, key to understanding the current situation.”

This will be followed by a round table featuring the poet, writer and columnist Enrique García-Máiquez; the promoter of Rosario de Ferraz, José Andrés Calderón; the former national deputy and councilor of the VOX Municipal Group in the Madrid City Council, Carla Toscano; the national deputy of the Popular Party, Miguel Ángel Quintanilla; and José Jarque Sainz, member of the audiovisual production company Terra Ignota.
