At the beginning of 2023, Molina presented the fourth installment of his report Nicaragua: A persecuted Church?. The document of more than 300 pages, which covers from April 2018 to August 2023, has recorded 667 attacks and aggressions directed towards the Catholic Church in Nicaragua, to which are added another 70 against Christian denominations.
“With the figures that we present, there is no doubt that 2023 is the most disastrous year and in which the Catholic Church has suffered the greatest persecution, with 205 attacks,” Molina said on October 4 at a press conference, when comparing the figure with previous years. In 2018, 90 were registered, a total of 84 in 2019, 62 in 2020, 55 in 2021 and 171 in 2022.
Given the attacks on the website, which also offers information about priests kidnapped by the dictatorship, Molina told EWTN News that he is consulting a series of experts to improve the security of the site, but assured that “if the dictatorship manages eliminate it, we are going to open another one.”
