They call for a march in Colombia against a circular that promotes sex change in children

A nationwide march has been called for October 19 by the United for Life platform, to reject the circular from the Colombian Health Superintendency that favors sex change in children.

It is about the external circular 115 that the National Health Superintendency (Supersalud) issued on September 21 and that provides “general instructions for inspection, surveillance and control to guarantee the right to health of trans people in Colombia.”

The demonstration has the motto “Don’t mess with the children” and goes, among others, against section H dedicated to “trans children and adolescents who are in the process of development.” The circular states that the objective is to assure this population “healthy development and support in the affirmation of gender identity and/or expression in these stages of the life cycle.”

To this end, the Supersalud document cites in the footer 26 rulings of the Constitutional Court favorable to sex change for minors.

For example, it points out that “ruling T-447 of 1995 established that sex reassignment requires the direct consent of the ‘patient’, since minors are the only ones who can decide about their life and freedom, which include “Sex as a relevant element of identity.”

Likewise, it cites the ruling T-218 the 2022 which, arguing “the need to ensure the autonomy of minors”, establishes that “in cases of intersexuality” the consent of the person responsible for the minor will only be necessary when the minor is less than five years old.

Furthermore, without making any difference between patients, Supersalud requires in its instructions to “verify that the right of trans people to access health services in treatment for surgical sexual reaffirmation or sex change is guaranteed.”

March will demand that the circular be canceled

In statements to ACI Prensa, the president of Unidos por la Vida, Jesús Magaña, pointed out that the objective of the October 19 march is to demand the revocation of circular 115 and the resignation of the health superintendent, Luis Carlos Leal.

Leal has held this position since February 23 by appointment of President Gustavo Petro.

Magaña indicated that Luis Carlos Leal “has issued this circular to promote hormoneization and sex change, according to his ideology, to his own way of living. “He is a homosexual activist, promoter of this entire LGBTIQ ideology.”

Likewise, he said that it is “a very clear project by President Petro, through his health superintendent.” “They don’t care about destroying the family, destroying the children, they don’t care about respecting the rights of parents because they want to do it to minors,” he added.

In the case of Bogotá, the march will begin at 10 in the morning in the National Park and will go to the Plaza de Bolívar, in the center of the city.
