The fundamental stone of the chapel was placed on November 12, 2023, but excavation works will only be launched this Wednesday, March 12. At 9:00 hours (local time) the rosary prayer is planned.

Fr. Osvaldo Scandura explained to the newspaper The Andes Diario That it was he who spoke with the archbishop of Mendoza, Mons. Marcelo Colombo, about the reality of young people and their link with the Catholic Church. From that conversation it arose that the property was allocated to the chapel dedicated to the “cyber and the Eucharist”, a young millennial who died in 2006 at age 15 due to leukemia and will soon be proclaimed holy.

“It was his idea that the property was destined to the Blessed Chapel Carlos Acutis,” said the priest, pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Socorro, under whose jurisdiction the new temple will be.

The architect Franco Pérez Magnelli explained to the same medium as both the interior and exterior of the chapel are going to be stone. The idea is to “symbolize dispossession, sobriety and humility with which Blessed lived.”

“Acutis was a great devotee from San Francisco de Asís, who also made his lifestyle dispossession,” he recalled.

The chapel, he explained, will have large windows that allow the entry of a lot of light, and is projected in the style of Latin Cruz, such as the ancient churches of Italy, in which the nave greater has more length than the minor arm, and views from above form the figure of a cross. In its stained glass windows the history of the saint will be represented.

The chapel is expected to be completed towards the end of 2027, and the estimated investment is one million dollars.
