They alert about false priest of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Catholic Church in Mexico City warned about a person who appears at funerals and homes by posing as a priest of the primed archdiocese of Mexico and also ensuring that he works in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

In a communication Signed by Mons. Salvador González Morales, auxiliary bishop of the primed archdiocese of Mexico, it was warned that the individual identifies as Jesús Romero Osornio Guadalupe and “presents documents that, apparently, support it” as a presbyter.

However, the document clarifies that this statement is false and that, although the subject presents documents that apparently support it, “neither does it appear to belong to another diocese of the Catholic Church, so that this archdiocese is demarcated by any service or celebration of some alleged sacrament to carry out. ”

How to know if a priest is legitimate?

Mons. González Morales regretted that there are these people who “go through Catholic priests or people who, having been priests, have received a sanction from the Church that prohibits them from ministerial exercise.”

The bishop explained that these false priests usually appear in “private or funeral events or homes where they are present to celebrate some sacrament: baptism, Eucharist, first communion and/or confirmation”.

Therefore, he recommended that, in case of needing pastoral care, the faithful go to a parish of the archdiocese or request priests with current licenses, “to avoid fraud situations.”
