There are still 4 cardinal electors for arriving in Rome for the conclave

At the end of the eighth General Congregation of Cardinals, held this Friday, May 2, the Vatican reported that the arrival of four voters to Rome is still expected, when just five days are missing for the start of the conclave.

The director of the press room of the Holy See, Matteo Bruni, did not reveal the names of the sloping ones that are still on their way to the eternal city.

However, he pointed out that during today’s session several cardinals arrived in Rome that lent oath at 10:30 am (local time), during the assembly pause.

In the private meeting, around 180 cardinals participated, of which more than 120 are electors.

During the encounter with journalists Bruni also denied rumors about a possible discomfort by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, specifying that no episode of that type has occurred. He also denied that there has been intervention of medical or nursing personnel.

Interventions on sexual abuse and financial scandals

Throughout the morning, they took the word 25 drowned and the interventions addressed issues of particular relevance for the future of the Catholic Church.

As indicated by the Press Office of the Holy See in a statement, it was stressed that evangelization has been the heart of Pope Francis, who sought a church “as fraternal and evangelizing communion, capable of speaking especially to the new generations.”

Likewise, this Friday, special attention has been paid to the Churches of the East, marked by suffering, but also “by a strong and brave testimony of faith.”

Several interventions also underlined the urgency of communicating the gospel effectively at all levels of ecclesial life, from parishes to the curia, remembering that “the testimony of mutual love is the first announcement, as the Gospel recalls.”

Cardinal interventions also dealt with sexual abuse and financial scandals.

The Vatican spokesman, Matteo Bruni, informed that these issues were addressed as “a wound” that must be maintained “open”, so that the awareness of the problem is kept alive and can identify concrete paths towards their healing.

Among other issues that arose are the centrality of the liturgy, the importance of canon law and the value of synodality, understood in its relationship with the mission, collegiality and overcoming secularism.

Finally, it reflected on the “hermeneutics of continuity” between the Pontificate of St. John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Pope Francis, as well as the Eucharist relevance in the evangelizing mission of the Church.
