King Carlos III of Great Britain said that the royal family was “deeply sad” upon learning of Pope Francis in the early hours of Monday.
“His holiness will be remembered for his compassion, his concern for the unity of the Church, and for his tireless commitment to the common causes of all people of faith, and with those of good will who work for the benefit of others,” said the monarch.
“His conviction that care for creation is an existential expression of faith in God resonated in so many people around the world,” he added.
“We send our deepest condolences and our deep sympathy to the church to which it served with such determination,” said the king.
King Carlos III and his wife Camila held an encounter with Pope Francis at the beginning of April, after the Holy Father returned to the Vatican after 38 days admitted to the hospital.
