This May 26 we remember San Felipe Neri, patron of educators, who 430 years ago was healed by the Virgin Mary in the midst of a mystical apparition that several witnessed. At the end, the saint gave special advice about the Mother of God.

In the book Life of the glorious father and patriarch Saint Philip Neri It is described that, in May 1594, Saint Philip became seriously ill and suffered such severe pain in his kidneys that he could not even eat, leaving him almost without a pulse.

The saint did not complain, but he repeated: “Increase the pain, but increase the patience (The pain increases, but the patience increases).

The doctors evicted him and asked that the curtains of his bed be drawn to see if he could rest. They, along with some of the followers of San Felipe, began to cry and thoughtfully waited for the moment of his death to arrive.

Suddenly the saint shouted several times: “He who desires in this world anything other than (not) God, is deceived: he who loves another, who (is not) Him, is miserably deceived.” At that, he stood up alone on his bed and began to shed tears, exclaiming full of emotion: “My Most Holy Lady! “My beautiful and blessed Lady!”

Everyone present ran to see what was happening and when they lifted the curtain they found him levitating (floating) over his bed and it seemed like he was hugging someone. “Oh, Lady, so beloved of my heart! Do you deign to visit me to temper my pain? Oh, beautiful Virgin! And who am I that you should honor me with your presence?” said the saint.

The witnesses heard him tell the Virgin that he did not deserve such an honor, that there was nothing in him worthy of her love. Then he asked her to allow him to hug her with all his soul and repeated her name Maria until she calmed down.

Upon coming out of the ecstasy, Saint Philip looked at those who accompanied him and asked them if they had seen the Virgin, who had freed him from pain. But when he realized that there were many people watching him, the humble saint began to cry in shame.

The doctors had to intervene to ask him not to cry and he told them that he was already cured by the Virgin.

Saint Philip asked the doctors not to say anything so that they would not find out in Rome, but they could not keep quiet about what they had seen. This reached the ears of two cardinals, who begged the saint to tell them what had happened and thus the Pope found out.

In the end, Saint Philip gave the following advice to all who came to visit him: “Know, children, and believe me, that there is no more powerful means to obtain the grace of God than his blessed Mother.”
