The Undersecretary of Sports, Julio Garrohe complained this Wednesday to the captain of the national team, Lionel Messiand to the president of the AFA, Claudio “Chiqui” Tapiawhat apologize for the racist chants that a group of players starred in after winning the Copa América and that were recorded in a live video that Enzo Fernández made on his social networks.
“The captain of the national team must also come out to apologize for that case and so should the president of the AFA,” said the former mayor of La Plata and now an official in the Sports Secretariat led by Daniel Scioli.
Garro also asked that such a fact serve as “something exemplary.” “It’s something that leaves us as a country in a bad position with so much glory and being able to take that plan to something exemplary is also very good and is done in our country and in the world,” he highlighted in an interview with Urbana Play.
In one of the videos that went viral after the victory against Colombia in Miami, Fernández is heard singing a song with racist content directed towards French footballers.
While the French Football Federation analyzes the possibility of making a claim to FIFA, the epicenter of the scandal is Chelsea, the club in which Fernández plays, which opened a disciplinary file. His French colleagues Axel Disasi, Malo Gusto and Wesley Fofana stopped following him on social networks; and Joules Koundé, from Barcelona, condemned the Argentinians’ song, calling it “Regrettable.”
