Audi is one of the luxury brands that has the largest variety of SUVs. It was not a pioneer in launching this type of vehicle, but it was the one that pluralized its range of models and options the fastest.
Today its offer covers all sizes (compact, medium, medium-large and large) and is defined by two body variants: the classic one and the sporty style known as Sportbacka name that the brand first used to differentiate the design of its cars (with the A3 and the A5, for example) and that later branched out to its family of SUVs.
The new Audi Q5 Sportback is the third coupe-style SUV to arrive in our country, after the Q3 Sportback and the e-tron Sportback. And despite having a different silhouette than the Q5, the dimensions are practically the same (it is 7 mm longer).
In the cabin, the only difference is in the rear seat where the drop in the roof reduces the height by two centimeters, although without affecting the comfort of the passengers. The trunk is barely smaller (510 versus 520 dm3).
Sporty image and behavior
The Audi Q5 Sportback range is made up of two versions: Advancedwhich has a value of $89,905and the S-Line (tested by Clarín), which costs $111,635.
Two things need to be clarified here. The first, that at the time of launch the Advanced variant cost $100,158, but the brand reduced its price (more than US$ 10 thousand) to be able to keep it at the limit of the first scale of the luxury tax, modified in June.
The second, that the brand has just updated the equipment of both versions, incorporating, among other things, driving assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control and warning for involuntary lane change, which the tested unit did not have.
That said, the Audi Q5 is a vehicle that is enjoyed at all times, especially because it has the technology to adapt it to the desired driving mode. The secret is the Drive Select, a system that modifies key vehicle components such as suspension, steering and transmission control, adapting to the driver’s preferences. Using a button on the center console or from the multimedia screen, you can select several driving modes:
- Comfort: Prioritizes the well-being and comfort of the passenger.
- Auto: adapts the vehicle characteristics according to driving conditions.
- Dynamic: Accentuates sporty performance, with adjustments for firmer response.
- Efficiency: adapts the operation of the engine and box, benefiting fuel savings.
- Individual: Allows you to customize different settings to create a unique configuration.
This is complemented by an efficient mild hybrid propulsion system (Mild-Hybrid) composed of the turbocharged engine. 2.0 liter 245 horsepower and another electric one that assists it in certain situations to contribute to the reduction of emissions and fuel consumption.
The figures are not very significant: 0.3 liters per 100 kilometers, as stated by Audi. Even the average consumption figures during this test were a bit high, touching 9 liters every 100 kilometers.
However, other benefits are added that enhance your driving comfort. For example, if you take your foot off the accelerator while traveling at cruising speed, the system turns off the engine for short periods but without stopping the operation of other functions such as the air conditioning.
The mechanical assembly is completed with the impeccable box Seven-speed dual-clutch S-Tronicthe effective all-wheel drive system (quattro) and a sports-calibrated suspension scheme that allow this almost two-ton vehicle to accelerate with energy and without bumps, turn with precision and achieve remarkable poise while traveling at high speed.
It is also a great vehicle to enjoy in the city, because despite having 20-inch wheels and low-bead tires, it is surprising how it absorbs the irregularities of the streets without affecting the cabin.
