Pope Leo XIV expressed his deep regret for the victims of the plane crash that occurred in Daca (Bangladesh), in which at least 31 people died after the impact of a air force training plane against a school.
Through a telegram sent in his name by the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy Father entrusted the deceased – a teacher and 25 students – to the merciful love of God and raised prayers “so that his family and friends find comfort in his pain, as well as for the prompt recovery and relief of the injured.”

“His holiness Pope Leo XIV has received with deep sadness the news of the loss of lives because of the accident of the military plane in Daca, in which students of Milestone School and College were involved,” reads the message published by the Vatican press office.
Finally, the Pontiff invoked the entire school community and above all those affected by this tragedy “the divine blessings of peace and strength.”
The accident occurred on Monday when a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft took off from the Air Base BAF Bir Uttom Ak Khandker In Daca. A few minutes later, the aircraft suffered a technical failure, lost altitude and came into loss. The pilot, the Lieutenant of Flight Towkir Islam, tried to divert the device from the residential areas, but failed to recover control.
The plane crashed into the Milestone School and Collegea private school located in the district of Uttara. The impact was devastating: the ship crossed a two -story building, caused a massive fire and caused the partial collapse of the structure while teaching were taught. Many classrooms were occupied by primary and secondary students.
In addition to the 31 dead deaths, more than 160 people were injured, many with serious burns and smoke inhalation injuries. Because several of the injured are in critical condition, it is feared that the figure of fatal victims can increase in the next few days.
