The José Ignacio Festival started with cinema under the stars

On Saturday, at the Bajada de los Pescadores, in José Ignacio (Uruguay), one thousand two hundred people enjoyed the event and the opening performance of the 14th edition of the JIIFF José Ignacio International Film Festival, a meeting that takes place until January 21 , which is sponsored by Clarion.

And with the starry sky, the first film of the Feature Film Competition was screened in a premiere screening for all of Latin America, Anatomy of a fall (Anatomy of a Fall), by French director Justine Triet, which was recently awarded the Golden Globe for best foreign language film, and in May won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Festival.

And if Buenos Aires has its Cannes Film Week between November and December, in this edition of the José Ignacio Festival there are many films that went through the competition in Cannes.

There are seven international films participating in the Feature Film Competition (whose winning film comes from the daily vote of the public) and five works by Uruguayan filmmakers that will make up the Short Film Competition; all of them as exclusive premieres for the region.

The performances are offered with free access in three venues: the traditional Bajada de los Pescadores, Pavilion VIK and, new this year, the Bodega Oceánica José Ignacio.

And at night there will be two screenings of The area of ​​interest (The Zone of Interest), by Jonathan Glazer, with Christian Friedel and Sandra Hüller (also leading the cast of Anatomy of a fall). It will be at the Pavilion VIK, with two functions, at 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Wednesday will be seen Perfect Days, by Wim Wenders, with Koji Yakusho, Tokio Emoto and Arisa Nakano. The appointment is at the José Ignacio Oceanic Winery, at 7 p.m.

There will be no screenings on Thursday, but there will be on Friday, when The wind that sweeps away, by Paula Hernández, with Alfredo Castro, Sergio López, Almudena González and Joaquín Acebo. The performances are at 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., at Pavilion VIK.

And the closing will be on Saturday, January 20, with May Decemberby Todd Haynes, with Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman.

In addition, there will be a curatorial look at the parallel activities: on Thursday, January 18, Working JIIFF, the JIIFF industry space, begins, where more than 60 participants from different parts of the world will work on building audiences, searching for new voices in fiction cinema and the strengthening of Latin American and international alliances. This year, the alliances with the Industry Academy of the Locarno Festival and the British Film Institute stand out.
