The Instagram account of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) was hacked on November 12, as confirmed by its press office. Those responsible demand money from the Episcopate to return the profile.
“The warning that we can share with all the parishioners is to be very careful with any scam under the name of the CEV. “We are working to recover the account and strengthen the necessary security and verification measures so that this does not happen again,” the press office said in a communication sent to ACI Prensa.

In addition, the CEV assured that all the corresponding complaints were made, but they have not yet received a response from Instagram. The Episcopate press office regretted that the platform’s security measures have not been sufficient to avoid this situation. “We are very exposed,” he lamented.
“We have other means of communication, like our count in X —which we invite you to follow—, our account in Facebookthe channel YouTube and our website. “We continue to report on these platforms, while we wait for Instagram to resolve,” he added.
“We invite you to stay in touch through these channels to receive information directly. We will communicate with the People of God in Venezuela upon learning the outcome of this situation,” the press office concluded.
Digital platforms are especially relevant for the dissemination of information in Venezuela, in the midst of a context of severe censorship sponsored by the State. In recent months, the Catholic Church in Venezuela has shared numerous messages to the parishioners, through its information channels, regarding the political and social situation in the country.
