the evolution of all-inclusive hotels with a more personalized format

Hotel complexes under the all-inclusive concept have been expanding globally for more than 70 years. After the end of the Second War, travelers began to look for vacation options that would allow them to escape from the world.

Over the decades, the all-inclusive format was perfected. Travelers no longer just want to escape, they also want to have fun and relax, do fitness and enjoy the spa, try exotic dishes and cocktails, cultivate a healthy lifestyle but also be part of the party.

In recent years, Hyatt Inclusive Collection gave a twist to the all-inclusive concept. The company took note of the new preferences of tourists and began to develop a la carte formatsadapted to the different moments and stages of life.

CancunMexico, has a preferential place in this Hyatt strategy. Ziva, Secrets, Breathless and Dreams are part of the different all-inclusive luxury hotel formats designed by the chain for different moments in life.

One for the youngest who prioritize non-stop fun, another for couples with romantic and private spaces, and others focused on exclusivity and luxury.

Differences between hotel formats

To expand the offer, today Haytt is working under two alternatives. In one of them it builds hotels from scratch and in the other it “converts” buildings to give them a new life and adapt them to the levels of services that the chain usually offers.

Hyatt Inclusive Collection has 10 brands, with 122 hotels openof which 84 are properties that were converted to this format. In recent months Hyatt moved forward with three new proposals in Cancun.

So, Vivid is the model chosen by those looking for a relaxed vacation, without childrenwhich allow you to choose between having lunch at one of the hotel’s five high-end restaurants or snacking on fajitas and ceviche, between beers and margaritas, at one of the complex’s two pools, one of them located on the roof top with views of the bay. , to the ocean and at sunset.

Hyatt Vivid Grand Island was built with flexibility rather than formality in mind”says Cristóbal Enríquez, VP of development for Hyatt Inclusive Collection.

The hotel was built over the last two years and has 400 rooms. In 2025 it will have a broader offering with the opening of Gref Grand Island, which is part of the same complex but unlike Vivid it will have 600 rooms for families and will have its own water park.

In these first months of launch, the room is around US$315 per night. In addition, Vivid has a premium option, the Vantage Club, with exclusive services for clients, including personalized concierge, private check-in and a bar with premium drinks.

The complex is located on the Nichupté lagoon, three kilometers from Playa Delfines, and to get to the Ennea Beach Club there is a shuttle from the hotel that leaves every half hour and covers the distance in five minutes.

Lying on the beach of Costa Mujeres, Secrets Playa Blanca is another of Hyatt’s new options in Cancun. In this case it is a resort for couples, with 507 suites. To all the pools, spa, restaurants, bars and recreational spaces, this complex adds an extensive beach with transparent water and white sand.

In this case the Secrets Playa Blanca is a comprehensive development by Hyatt. Among the pleasures he reserves for guests, he includes a wine cellar inside the Italian restaurant and another with a Mexican imprint, of mezcal and tequila. The upgraded Preferred Club rooms offer an extra level of luxury with an oceanfront beach bar and infinity pool exclusively for these guests.

The most exclusive proposal of the Hyatt Collection is Impression in Isla Mujeres. Located on the side of the island facing the Cancun Coast, the hotel has just 125 suites, each with its own private jacuzzi on the balcony and personalized butler service.

It has four pools heated by solar panels and a temple-shaped terrace to enjoy the sunset over Cancun or the celebration of the full moon. Calm, clear, turquoise waters surround the resort, which is reached via the hotel’s catamaran from downtown Cancun.

Adriana Vázquez, the company’s design and planning director, says that “80% of the hotels we have today are conversions. Unlike those of comprehensive development, which are made from scratch, where only natural limitations exist, A conversion has more limitations. As opportunities arise, we take them, the conversions are carried out more quickly, it can be in six months, depending on the state of the property and a construction from scratch can take two years.”

This is a hotel that was remodeled in May 2023 in which the room costs US$2,300 per night. The luxury of the property includes everything from a spa with a float to design details, such as the fact that 90% of the furniture is made by Mexicans, most of them artisans from the Yucatan Peninsula.

For Hyatt Inclusive Collection, the natural market in this region is travelers arriving from the United States and Canada.

“The American market is going to continue growing and that is where our brands are focused. The southern winter also helps and We see a lot of demand from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Colombia. We have a network of representatives in Argentina because customers search for our products a lot. That there are direct flights from Buenos Aires helps a lot,” Enríquez reinforces.

“We have projects in Mexico, in the Caribbean, in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Aruba. This is how we are expanding our footprint throughout the region,” explains Enríquez.

Along these lines, he mentions that the company “has been in talks for some time with investors for Brazil, especially in the Northeast where we see that the model could work in a very similar way. “We are seeing what is the best way to enter.”
