The story of Angel Di Maria with the Argentine National Team It closed last Sunday with a happy ending. That path that began in a great way by becoming U20 world champion in 2007 and Olympic champion in Beijing 2008, then went through ups and downs and very difficult moments to endure: lost finals, untimely injuries and excessive criticism.
They were moments that he suffered Angelitobut also his family and loved ones, who know better than anyone how much he had to fight to recover again and again, try again and end up going down in history as one of the greats in the history of Argentine football. He went from being resisted to one of the great figures of the Combined two-time champion of America and world champion, with goals in two of those three finals.
One of the people who experienced this process closely was Tight, his eldest daughter, who published a letter on her Instagram account in which she relives part of that suffering, but focuses on the pride she feels for her father. She did it hours after Video will win the America Cup, the fourth title in a row with the National Team. That’s how he said goodbye.
Definitely, it goes like “one of the best players in Argentine history”, just as his daughter wrote.
The message from the eldest daughter Di María
Dear Daddy, I know that many never wanted this day to come, but today it came. A career that lasted more than 16 years has come to an end. I’m sure that even those who criticized you the most never wanted you to leave the National Team.
There was a lot of criticism but you always kept banging your head against the wall and, after so much effort, it broke. You went through six clubs and there were many years that you suffered, for different reasons, but football always pays off.
You achieved your greatest goal! The World Cup and many more titles: 34 titles! Without a doubt you made a huge step in the National Team, as well as in other clubs and countries. Wembley, Maracana, Qatar. Three places that will be marked forever but with your magic, obviously.
Between tears and pain, we say goodbye to you with enormous love and affection. What more can you say about a man who gave his life for a t-shirt? I know that for many you were not the hero or much less a God in the National Team, but in my heart you will always be the best father and player in the world.
I am very glad that you have been able to enjoy your career as you deserve and always wanted. I remember those nights when you came home from training and eagerly told me everything that had happened to you.
I am sure that your career is going to mark something very important in the future. Many will remember you for your work, but I will remember you as that boy who played ball with a rock in the street, who years later won the World Cup with his teammates, being one of the best players in Argentine history.
I will always support you in your decisions, don’t doubt that. Thank you for being the best father and partner in the world to me. I promise you that I will accompany you everywhere to always encourage these colors. I would write to you much more, but there are not enough words to describe how proud I am of you. I love you mine.
