A week ago, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift released her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. The album broke records before its release: it officially became the most pre-save in history.
But we’re not here to talk about Taylor’s new album, but about one of their songs.
Because it turns out that the Florida song!!! (with Florence + The Machine) mentions a place in particular, called Destin -in the state of Florida, United States-, and since the song was known, the interest in this destination grew exponentially.
“So you work your life away just to pay for a timeshare down in Destin”, says part of the lyrics.
What is Destin like and where is it?
Destin is a town located on the coast of Florida, in the northwest, known for its white sand beaches and emerald waterover the Gulf of Mexico.
It was founded by New Englander Leonard Destin in the 1840s.
On its Tourism website, Destin advertises that “discovering the perfect vacation has never been easier.”
According to the US News & World Report travel guide, the best time to visit Destin is during the months of April and May, since “the water is warm, the sun is shining, and the temperatures are comfortable.”
In their social networksthe municipality of Destin took advantage of the moment, as soon as the songs and their lyrics were known.
“We’ve had other songs mentioning Destin over the years, but this is the first official one from Taylor Swift with her just-released Florida!!!. We always had the suspicion that Shake it Off (one of Taylor’s famous songs, from 2014) was actually about the sand in her toes after a long, happy day at the beach.
In this destination, in addition to the beach, there are fishing trips, golf fieldsmany restaurant options, shopping (Silver Sands Factory Stores is billed as “the largest designer outlet center in the country”), and you can even rent golf carts to get around more easily and go to the beach.
In September and October, festivals like the Destin Fishing Rodeo and the Destin Seafood Festival draw big crowds.
In Florida, its residents describe it as “the luckiest fishing town in the world”.
What started as a small fishing town has become a popular Florida vacation destination.
