The city of Buenos Aires is preparing for a new cruise season and expectations are encouraging: according to statistics from the Tourism Observatory of the Tourism Entity, between November 2024 and April 2025 they will arrive in the City more than 479,000 passengers.
This figure represents the highest number of cruise passengers in the last 12 years. The last season with the best statistics was the period 2013-2014, when 407,000 passengers arrived at the port in 159 calls.
This time they will be more cruise passengers in fewer calls: Between January and March, 76% of the 125 calls that will occur throughout the season will be concentrated. And within that period, January will be the month with the highest number of ship arrivals (30% of the total).
An interesting fact is that 27% of the ships that call in Buenos Aires throughout the season will pass at least a night in the city.
The cruise season in the City of Buenos Aires will be inaugurated on November 7with the arrival of the Viking Jupiter -930 passengers-, from the Viking Cruises shipping company, which will then depart for Chile.
“That cruise passengers continue to choose the city of Buenos Aires is a source of pride, but at the same time it is an encouragement to continue working in have a tourist offer at the level of the great cities of the world“said Valentín Díaz Gilligan, president of the Tourism Entity of the City of Buenos Aires.
And he added: “It represents an opportunity for create a complete experience aimed at a type of tourist who spends few days in the destination compared to other segments.
Between January and August 2024the City of Buenos Aires received 1,895,025 foreign visitors: Brazil is in the lead as the main issuer of travelers (523,388), followed by the United States (221,307), Uruguay (218,492), Chile (179,266) and Peru (97,427).
These numbers show a 6.15% growth in relation to the same period last year (1,785,207).
Anyway, there is still more to grow: The figures for 2024 are 1.75% below the numbers for 2019, a year that marked a historical record for international tourism in the City of Buenos Aires.
