The celest wave: the documentary that relives the historic triumph providates in Argentina

Faro Films, the Argentine producer who was born to support the cause and that has already released several productions with the focus on the transmission of values, presents its new bet: To the celestial olaa record of the historical triumph of the province movement that in 2018 opposed abortion in Argentina and managed to stop the bill.

The documentary collects testimonies of provida activists and figures committed to the cause such as Agustín Laje, Lupe Batallán, Paco Medina, Sebastián Schuff and Neydy Casillas, by Global Center for Human Rights, and Jorge Serrano – founder of the Women’s Aid Center (CAM) in Mexico, who died earlier this year.

Currently, the CAM has 70 headquarters in Mexico and 130 more in other Latin American countries, which offer information and containment to women who have decided to abort, to freely opt for the acceptance of their motherhood.

In dialogue with ACI Press, the director of Faro Films, Nicolás Canale, recalled that the producer was born in 2018, “just Mauricio Macri (president of Argentina at that time) established the debate in Congress.”

“With two friends who had been talking for a long time to build something together with values, we said: well, it is the time, we have to start because it comes heavy, especially thinking about what the media were not going to cover the province movement, and that someone had to do it.”

The producer was launched with the video clip of a song in favor of life, and with the coverage of the massive march for life. From there, explains Canale, “began a remote videos with interviews with referents that came to Argentina, new marches, new calls, we went with drones, we made notes, and went to every lung …”.

The first big bet was a video with famous defending life. “As soon as we took it out, that same day all the media raised it, it came out everywhere,” he recalls.

On June 13, 2018, the half sanction in deputies was a hard blow. “It was terrible, a downturn for all,” recalls the director, noting that even some deputies who had participated in their videos then voted in favor of abortion.

“There began our hard work stage, with stronger journalistic reports, with information, with the help of many people who investigated and passed us data …”.

That effort was reflected in the weeks prior to August 8, 2018, when the Senate rejected the project. “It was the year that marked us as the producer Provida, not from Argentina but of Latin America, because what was the movement of the Celeste And the “we save the two lives” began to reach everywhere. “

A pending project

The idea of ​​the documentary arose at the end of 2019, and included a very existous crowdfunding campaign that helped the initial development of the project, but then the pandemic arrived, and what finished cooling the project was that in December 2020, under the government of Alberto Fernández, the abortion law in Argentina was approved.

“That changed everything, to the script. Everything we had thought no longer made sense, and it was there, it was truncated.”

Between 2021 and 2024, Faro Films premiered other productions such as 1982, the deed, The Apocalypse of San Juan y God in the trenches. However, “we always had the heavy backpack of the celestial wave,” admits Canale, especially for the people who had collaborated at the beginning of the project.

In 2023, during a trip to the United States, they interviewed personalities such as Patricia Sandoval and Montse Alvarado, president and director of Operations of Ewtn News, which gave a new impulse to the project.

Finally, in 2025 they made the decision: “We said, that’s it, let’s make the celestial wave. There was no handle for this project, but one day reviewing material, ordering old material, I said: ‘It cannot be that this will never come to light’.”

“We must show it, seven years after the 2018 victory and even more than now, abortion is legal, it is a historical document that comes in this time to motivate the movement again …”.

An invitation to hope

The film will premiere on November 5 at the Beethoven Foundation, with a special premiere and a cocktail. “That day, the idea is also to see each other’s faces again, all the province that we work together in that year.”

Canale emphasizes that the documentary seeks to give a message: “It is to unite again, to meet, to motivate us so that all that work is not in vain because two years later they put the law. Actually now it is much more serious, because now there is law, and there are more abortions. It has to be a message of hope that this will be able to reverse if we join again, if we return to work.”

“Hopefully those who are in politics do not forget that issue and do everything possible so that, at the moment but as soon as possible, this law can be repealed,” he yearns. And it encourages citizens to “not shut up in their fields, comment with the truth, with what they think, not be afraid to manifest in the networks … to speak and always promote the defense of life.”
