The president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, Mons. Luis Argüello, expressed the joy for the election of Pope Leo XIV and revealed a deep comment made by the then Cardinal Prevost during the Synod of the Bishops and marked him “deeply”.
“The Spanish Church is glad in an extraordinary way by welcoming this new Pope,” said Mons. Argüello after the choice of the Pontiff, in a message in which he stressed that Leo XIV adds “the saga of potatoes with this name, which begins with Pope León Magno – of unique importance in the life of the Church of the 5th century, and contemporary for some years of St. Augustine – and continues with Leo XIII of the Church ”.

“We, then, with joy and thanks this new gift that the Holy Spirit has made us through the Cardinals College. Mons. Argüello recalled that he coincided with then Cardinal Robert Prevost at one of the work tables of the Bishops Synod: “In that dialogue, the current Pope Leo XIV made a comment that deeply touched my heart.”
