A few days after the time of Lent, the Archdiocese of Mexico called on the Catholic faithful “to live this time with prayer and discernment, with a heart willing to forgive and ask for forgiveness.”
In the editorial of his weekly from the faith, the archdiocese of Mexico remembers this Sunday’s Gospel (Juan 8, 1-11), in which an adulterous woman is presented to Jesus by the scribes and Pharisees.

“‘He who is free of sin, to throw the first stone,’ tells his accusers. Upon hearing this reaction from Jesus, they gradually retired, starting with the most old,” says the editorial, entitled “Who pulls the first stone?”.
The Archdiocese stressed that “this passage of the Gospel teaches us two fundamental truths of the Church’s doctrine: we are all sinners and we are all called for reconciliation.”
“Jesus does not approve sin, but neither does he condemn the person. With compassion and firmness he tells the woman: ‘Go, and not little more.’ That is the essence of Christian mercy: truth and love, justice and forgiveness,” he says.
“How many of us have not launched stones, pointing out the failures in the other from a pedestal of moral superiority? How many times have we been quick to judge, slow to understand and even slower to forgive?”, The editorial of the primed archdiocese of Mexico then questions.
“Self -criticism is not easy, but it is necessary,” he continues, warning that “this inability to self -criticism not only see it on a personal level, but also in many social institutions, even political and government. Sometimes we see how citizens are minimized or their most basic needs are ignored, while indicating with force any other people’s mistake or to which he thinks differently.”
Remembering that the Lent time is “almost coming to an end”, the Archdiocese of Mexico asked the entire Mexican society, including those who “influence decision making”, to make “an honest self -evaluation, with a view to improve, to heal wounds and build a fair, transparent and solidary society.”
“That this Lent does not happen as one more season, but as a turning point that transforms us to good,” he said.
