The Catholic Church in Colombia and the UN reject the ELN’s announcement to resume kidnappings

The government delegation assures that the creation of the multi-donor fund was “for the financing of peace activities contained in the agenda of the dialogues contained in the Mexico Agreement”. For this reason, he called on the ELN to maintain its commitment to putting an end to any form of kidnapping.

For his part, the ombudsman, Carlos Camargo Assis, rejected the guerrilla announcement and indicated that this “demonstrates for the umpteenth time the lack of will to carry out a peace conversation, despite the commitments previously established.”

Camargo recalled that the kidnapping goes against the principles of international humanitarian law. “To release a person in exchange for money is to trample on the human condition, to lead the victim and her family, who are also victims, to humiliation,” he said.
