For his part, the ombudsman, Carlos Camargo Assis, rejected the guerrilla announcement and indicated that this “demonstrates for the umpteenth time the lack of will to carry out a peace conversation, despite the commitments previously established.”
Camargo recalled that the kidnapping goes against the principles of international humanitarian law. “To release a person in exchange for money is to trample on the human condition, to lead the victim and her family, who are also victims, to humiliation,” he said.
