The march, which will depart at 10:00 am from the monument to the Revolution, is convened by the Steps for Life Foundation with the support of many more organizations, under the slogan “every life is a triumph.” This year, the call has a special character: 18 years of the decriminalization of abortion at request until 12 weeks of gestation in Mexico City are turned.

Remembering the teachings in defense of the life of Pope Francis, of Benedict XVI and San Juan Pablo II, Mons. Castro Castro said that participating in this march will be an opportunity for, as a society, we publicly express our commitment to the defense and promotion of life. “

“Life is the most precious gift we have received from God,” said the prelate, stressing that “each person from their conception to their natural death has an inviolable dignity and deserves our respect and protection.”

“In a world where the value of human life is often questioned, especially the most vulnerable, this march reminds us that each life counts, every life matters, each life is truly a triumph,” he said.

“It gives us a lot of strength”

Interviewed by ACI Press, Pilar Rebollo, president of steps for life, stressed that the message of the Mexican Episcopate “gives us a lot of strength.”

“It is gratifying to feel the support” of the Catholic Church, he said, especially in a context in which in around 70% of Mexican states laws have been approved that decriminalize abortion until 12 or 13 weeks of pregnancy. “And the attacks continue,” he warns.

Until the electoral victory of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his party, Morena, in 2018, abortion was only decriminalized in Mexico City. Since then, the states that have approved similar laws, in most cases with the impulse of Morena.

Given this context, said the president of steps for life, in addition to Catholics, Christians of different denominations are joined, as well as people from other Mexican states and even “from other countries, people who are concerned about what is happening in Mexico”.

“Each life is a triumph”

Pilar Rebollo stressed that the motto of “every life is a triumph” means: “They hear, even when they continue to attack (with) the laws, we are for every life that we save, and with every life we save we are triumphing. We have saved more lives than the states that can decrease or that the defeats we feel.”

“We have saved many lives and that has been worth it (…) and we will continue saving lives,” he said.

The generation that turns 18 with decriminalized abortion

The expectations, he said, are “very high” this year, and said they expect “to be a young march, because we are summoning the 2007 generation, that generation that today turns 18, such as decriminalized abortion.”

“We want young people to be the testimony of life, marching in memory of those who have died since their generation, and also as a testimony of the young younger cause,” he said.

The provida cause, a “balm” for an injured Mexico

Rebollo regretted that “in Mexico we have touched the violence funds.”

“When a country allows – sometimes it promotes and sometimes shines – that a mother kills her son, because the rest should not surprise us. I think you have to heal that wound from the base, from the beginning.”

“We are urgent to value life from the beginning, the life of other people, above my plans, above my ambitions, above my fears,” he said.

The president of steps for life pointed out that “we are a bloody land, from the mother’s womb, young people are in danger, their plans are also fragile.”

“The provident cause is a balm for an injured, insensitive and capable country,” he said.
