The bill that equated witchcraft with religion was withdrawn from the Senate of Colombia, a decision that has been highlighted by Catholic parliamentarians.

The project proposed to eliminate the paragraph that excludes “the activities related to the study and experimentation of psychic or parapsychological phenomena; Satanism, magical or superstitious or spiritual practices or other analogues outside religion.”
If it had been approved, the Law of Religious Freedom would have included “the ancestral, indigenous, Afro -Colombian, Raizales, Palenqueras and other traditional expressions.”

“The Congress of the Republic has just filed two bills, two initiatives that sought to raise all these esoteric practices of shamanism, witchcraft of religion status and also create an entity that monitors and control all religious entities,” said Senator Mauricio Giraldo.
Senator Provida said that “the Church deserves independence” and that “our Catholic faith deserves respect and we will not allow them to continue presenting those initiatives.”
