Very little is known about Leonardo DiCaprio’s private life. Since he began his career, his parents – especially his mother, Irmelin – accompany him everywhere. Even to the Cannes Festival.
But there are things you probably don’t know about the Oscar-winning actor, who turns 50 today, Monday, November 11.
1. that the joke “Everything from Titanic has been nominated for an Oscar except DiCaprio and the iceberg” was the first meme about him on the Internet.
2. That during a trip to Italy, his mother felt her baby kick for the first time while looking at a painting by Leonardo Da Vinci in the Uffizi Museum in Florence. And he decided to name him Leonardo in his honor.
But, legend or not, it is said that Leo went through a hundred auditions in the ’80s, and never ended up in any of them. An agent recommended that he change his name because “it sounded too foreign.” Luckily he didn’t. The first film he shot was Critters 3 (1991), a horror one.
3. That they offered him the role of Peter Parker in the Spider-Man by Sam Raimi, which went to his best friend, Tobey Maguire. That he did not accept the role of the porn actor that his friend Mark Wahlberg would later play in Boogie Nightsby PT Anderson, because he was overwhelmed with the filming of Titanic. And what could be the Robin of Batman Foreveropposite Val Kilmer, but luckily for him, the role went to Chris O’Donnell.
And it will never be known if he declined or was not approved to be Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.
4. That he is the highest-grossing actor, he earns a minimum of 20 million per film, that he has never filmed a sequel to any of his hits and that he has filmed with the most established directors, from Scorsese to Cameron, including Tarantino, Nolan, Spielberg, Allen, and Eastwood. If you want to know how much he earned for movies, keep reading…
5. Que su X o ex Twitter (@LeoDiCaprio) only uses it to spread messages that have to do with ecology or the environment. So don’t waste your time writing to him.
6. That even his friend Tarantino had thought of him to compose the Nazi colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious bastards (it was done by Christoph Waltz, who won best actor at Cannes and the Oscar as supporting actor), which would have been his first collaboration with DiCaprio.
7. That – it is said or known or speculated – he only dates models under 25 years of age. There were eight in two decades – he relapsed with Bar Refaeli – and among his conquests was the actress Camila Morrone, from 2018 to 2022.
8. Which, curiously, in Once upon a time… in Hollywoodshares scenes with Al Pacino, who was a partner of Lucila Polak, Morrone’s mother, from Salta.
9. Who never made a superhero movie.
10. That DiCaprio also wanted to participate in Moulin RougeBaz Luhrmann, but he himself warned that her singing voice was “atrocious” and unacceptable for the film.

The unforgettable party: all the stars
They say well that there is no need to celebrate in advance, nor receive greetings, nor those two blessed words (Happy Birthdayo Happy Birthday!in English) before the day on which a new anniversary of his birth actually occurs.
But Leonardo DiCaprio preferred to celebrate it in a mansion in the Hollywood Hills, not one, but two days before. It must be because it was Saturday, and he thought that Steven Spielberg, Robert De Niro, Tobey Maguire and Mark Ruffalo would work today, Monday, which is the exact day he turns 50.
The truth is that it was a party with champagne for $400 a bottle.
Who didn’t want to miss it? Brad Pitt, who arrived in a yellow suit, and his girlfriend Inés de Ramón, Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. From Robert de Niro to Paris Hilton, including Chris Rock, Cara Delevingne, Jamie Foxx, Tobey Maguire, Edward Norton, Mark Ruffalo, Emile Hirsch, Anderson Paak, rapper Tyga and Benicio del Toro, with whom DiCaprio stars in his new film The Battle of Baktan Crossdirected by Paul Thomas Anderson, and which will be released in theaters on August 8, 2025.
Of course there were Leo’s parents, his mother Irmelin Indenbirken, along with her second husband, David Ward, and father, George DiCaprio, who arrived with his new wife Peggy. And also, of course, there was his new girlfriend, the Italian top model Vittoria Ceretti, who is not 25 years old, but… 26.
Dinner was provided by the prestigious Japanese food house Nobu. The champagne was from the exclusive French brand Telmont (a brut reserve bottle costs no less than $400).
DJ Meel was in charge of the music, but for the climax moment, yes, the one in which Happy Birthday was sung and Leo blew out the candles, who was behind the keyboards was Stevie Wonder himself, who played his song Happy Birthdaynot the one we all sing.
It was almost dawn, and in the garden of the mansion Leo seemed excited. Or he was crying about how much the party cost him, but for what he earns per movie, as we saw, he can indulge himself in life.
