They emphasize, Cardinal Cobo points out, “that the laity are called to live their faith in the midst of temporal realities, such as family, work, politics, culture and society in general. “Its role is fundamental for evangelization and the transformation of social structures in the light of the Gospel.”
For all this, the cardinal considers that the laity must be supported “so that they embrace their being in Christ and continue to reveal its meaning from the identity that is their own.” This call implies “continuing to grow in discipleship and the call to holiness”, which leads to missionary commitment in ordinary life “but always as part of the Church”, in such a way that three realities are integrated: Christ, Church and society. .
These three “are the axes in which the baptismal condition of the laity must be expressed: disciple of Christ, co-responsible member of the Church-communion from the different ministries, offices and functions, and builder of the Kingdom of God from coherence and sanctity of life. For all this, formation constitutes a pastoral challenge of the first order.”
