Synod of Synodality 2024: Instrumentum Laboris will be published in early July

The General Secretariat of the Synod of Synodality reported that the document on which the work of the October session in Rome will be based will be published in the first ten days of July, once it is approved by Pope Francis.

Between June 23 and 24, a meeting took place between the members of the Ordinary Council of the Synod of Synodality and some consultants from the General Secretariat of the Synod to discuss a first version of the Work Tool 2.

This was reported today by the General Secretariat of the Synod in a press release. After the meeting of theologians at the beginning of June, a first version of the future working document was drafted.

Subsequently, this first text was sent, in addition to the members of the Council, to about 70 people, representatives of the entire People of God, among whom are priests, consecrated men and women, lay people, representatives of ecclesial realities, theologians, agents of pastoral care and a significant number of pastors from all over the world, of diverse ecclesial sensibilities and different theological “schools.”

Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the General Secretariat of the Synod, noted that they have carried out “this broad consultation to maintain coherence with the principle of circularity (what comes from the base, returns to the base) that animated the entire synodal process. ”.

According to the cardinal, “this verification of the material prepared in light of the reports received is also intended to be an exercise, on the part of the General Secretariat, of that accountability (accountability) that characterizes the synodal Church and that, I am sure, will bear witness to the authenticity of the synodal work.”

As expressed in the statement, this meeting also included an analysis of the progress of the synodal process, particularly this time between the two sessions of the Assembly.

Furthermore, they reiterate that this year’s work, despite the short time available, helped the faithful understand that this synod is about synodality “and not about solving this or that problem, but about entering into a dynamic of conversion.” pastoral, a style of being and living the mission of the Church, trusting in the support of the Holy Spirit.”

Finally, they highlight that the aim is to more closely relate the current synodal process with the path of preparation for Jubilee 2025, “above all through prayer.”

Audience with Pope Francis

On the morning of Monday, June 24, the members of the Council were received in audience by Pope Francis, who encouraged them to continue their work and the participants also approved an outline program for the next assembly.

After the work of the Council and an extensive review, a new version of the Work Tool 2 which will be sent back to the Ordinary Council for approval.

The new document will then be delivered to the Holy Father for final approval.
