Synod leaders promise obedience to Pope Leo XIV

The direction of the Vatican Synod office has promised its total availability and support to Pope Leo XIV in a public letter addressed to the new Pontiff, shared on Tuesday on its website and social networks.

Pointing out that the synodal road “continues” under the guide of Leo XIV, The letter He says that the General Secretariat of the Synod looks “with confidence what you will indicate, to help the growth of a church attentive to listening, close to each person, capable of authentic and cozy relations, house and family of God open to all: a missionary sinodal church.”

Signed by the Secretary General, Cardinal Mario Grech, and the Undersecretaries Sor Nathalie Becquart, XMCJ, and Archbishop Luis Marín de San Martín Osa, the letter explains the path that has followed the synod of the synodality since its beginning in 2021, including the approval by Pope Francis of the final document at the end of the general assembly in October 2024.

“The General Secretariat of the Synod remains fully available to offer its service with a spirit of collaboration and obedience,” concludes the letter.

As a prefect of Dicastery for Bishops, the now Pope Leo XIV participated in both sessions of the Synod of Synodality in October 2023 and October 2024.

Like Pope Leo XIV, Mons. Marín, one of the Synod’s Undersecretaries, is a member of the Order of San Agustín.

The Synod, says the letter, “is an ecclesial path guided by the Holy Spirit, gift of the risen, which helps us grow as a missionary church in constant conversion, from the listening of the Gospel.”

The letter also quotes a note attached to the final document, which says that the indications of the document “can already be put into practice in the local churches and in the group of churches, taking into account the various contexts, what has already been done and what remains to be done.”
