Faced with the tragedy, the priest explained that praying “is the most important thing we can do in a situation like this” despite the fact that we experience “great human helplessness.” Faced with the reality of death, he added, “we cannot do anything, but we embrace faith and trust in the power of God.”
In the same radio program, the Bishop of Getafe, Mons. Ginés García Beltrán, explained that “the life of man is very ephemeral, very vulnerable” and that the evangelical words “watch because you do not know the day or the hour” should not be induce fear: “They are a call to hope and to live according to how we want to die,” in such a way that “our death is the seal of life.”
For the prelate, these dramatic situations “are moments to cry, certainly, because the Lord cried. But also to center our life, to see where the center and the true meaning of our life is.”
