St. George encourages Catholics to slay dragons of sin and hate, says Cardinal Dolan

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York (United States), highlighted that the example of Saint George, whose feast day the Catholic Church celebrates this April 23, encourages all the faithful to “slay dragons” in life as sin and hatred.

In a reflection published on his account of the red social X (formerly Twitter), the cardinal asked if “have you ever heard the term slaying dragons?” It means that you are facing evil or suffering or difficulty in life. It happens that today is the feast of Saint George, an extraordinarily popular saint, especially in the East and in the Holy Land.”

“Saint George is always represented, as you well know, slaying a dragon. The dragon, of course, in our Christian imagination always represents the power of evil, satan, sin, suffering, sin and hatred,” he continued.
