On this day 116 years ago, Sister Lucía was born, one of the visionaries who in 1917 witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin of Fátima in Cova da Iria (Portugal).
On the website of the Sanctuary of Fátima, where the nun’s remains have rested since 2006, it recalls that Lucía witnessed the apparitions of the Mother of God when she was 10 years old.
Lucía’s mission, points out the Portuguese Shrine, “consisted of spreading devotion to the Heart of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as results from the description that she herself makes in her memoirs, starting with the second apparition in June” 1917.
