Short film in virtual reality about the Virgin of Guadalupe

In Mexico, a short film is being prepared in completely immersive virtual reality, which will recreate the apparitions of the Virgin of Guadalupe that occurred almost 500 years ago, a project that combines technology and faith to bring the Guadalupe message to new generations.

The project is promoted by the Catholic youth apostolate “We are Footprint” of the Archdiocese of Chihuahua and the production is in charge of “Human Story Makers”, a production house with experience in projects for Hollywood and Mexican cinema.

In news conference On October 13, Father Alberto Soto, responsible for “Somos Huella”, confirmed that the recordings have already been completed and are now in the post-production stage.

The priest explained that the initiative arose from the desire to “bring our Mexico closer to the Virgin Mary of Guadalupe,” especially in a context where “there is a lot of division, in which there is a lot of violence, in which there is a lot of blood crying out for peace.”

“We believe that the only solution is to bring God to all possible hearts, and precisely the way in which the Holy Spirit has inspired us has been through an innovative way,” said the priest.

The launch of the short film is scheduled for January 2026 in the city of Chihuahua, and will subsequently tour other regions of the country, especially those, according to Father Soto, “with the greatest problems of decomposition of the social fabric.”

“From Chihuahua we will give Mexico a very simple idea: we are not orphans; God loves us and has sent us Mary of Guadalupe as a mother,” he indicated.

For his part, Fernando Mota, creative director of “Human Story Makers”, explained that the production combines 360° virtual reality and stereoscopic filming, which will allow the viewer to perceive depth and movement as if they were present on the Tepeyac hill.

“I hope that each viewer, when they put on their glasses and begin to explore the world that we are going to bring them, can immerse themselves in 1531 and can experience not only the Niga motors (account in the Nahuatl language of the apparitions) but a little about the social context that was experienced and the spiritual conflict that existed”

The project, the result of four years of planning, was filmed in the hills of Chihuahua, where faith and technology came together to give life to an immersive experience about the Guadeloupan message.
