Selena Gomez was confirmed as the protagonist of the film about the life of the Mexican-American singer-songwriter Linda Ronstadtconsidered the first Latin woman to succeed in music in English.
Although at the moment not too many details have emerged, a publication on Instagram by Gómez herself hinted that the story will follow Ronstadt’s autobiographical steps and the title used for the biopic is Simple Dreams (Simple dreams).
The story will be based on a book published in 2013 (Feels Like Home), bestseller that tells the life of the artist born into a Mexican-American family in Tucson, Arizona.
According to the specialized press, the film will be directed by Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, and filmmaker James Keach, who also produced the documentary in 2019. Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voicewhich can be seen on Prime Video.
From the beginning of her career, Ronstadt defended her Latin roots and included Mexican music in her repertoire, although she is mostly known for her rock, folk and country songs.
Selena Gómez, also of Mexican origins and both an actress and singer-songwriter, told last week on the podcast Smartless that he will abandon his musical career after the album he plans to release this year.
“I think I have one more album in me, but I’m already tired of music,” she confessed, after revealing that her first love is acting and that she only started singing because she was inside the Disney machine, when she was starring in the series. The Wizards of Waverly Place (2007-2012).
Currently, Gómez stars in the series Only Murders in the Building, from HBO, with veterans Steve Martin and Martin Short. This year his next film will be released Emilia Perezthe first one he made spoken in the Spanish language.

For her part, Ronstadt, who is currently 77 years old, has been retired since 2011. A year after stepping away from music, it was learned that the singer had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and that her voice had been seriously affected.
During her career, the artist recorded 30 studio albums, participated in more than 120 record productions and managed to sell around 100 million records.
In 1987, Ronstadt explored his Mexican heritage in the production songs of my father, with nine rancheras that he performed in Spanish and that also featured mariachis. The album earned him a Grammy Award in the category Best Mexican American Performance.
Later he released the albums More songs y Frenzyin 1989 and 1991, for which he won the Grammy for best Mexican American music album and the Latin Grammy for best tropical music album, respectively.
“I don’t believe in happy songs,” he once said. She never married, although she had no shortage of suitors. In the seventies she had a touted relationship with Jerry Brown, then governor of California. “Relationships are almost impossible. On the one hand, you have the possibility of having new ones every three seconds. And, on the other, you are not around long enough. The people I came into contact with are other musicians, and everyone is very competitive”.
