Saint John the Baptist, the precursor of the Gospel in Advent
In the readings of this Second Sunday of Advent, the figure of Saint John the Baptist stands out, “Precursor of the Lord Jesus” or “Precursor of the Gospel”, who announces the coming of the true Messiah and “approaches men who live in the oblivion of God to remove them from their religious indifference, awaken them to the love of God, form their moral conscience, and move them to conversion and justice.”
The Archbishop highlighted that, by stepping aside when Jesus arrives, “Saint John the Baptist presents himself to us as a model of humility and apostolic simplicity, of not living clinging to the fruits of our evangelizing action, and even less of seeking through of them some prominence or our own glory.”
