The name of Mary, for her etymology and biblical sense, remembers that of Eva, the first woman, but in radical contrast. Unlike Eva, who sinned by condemning her children, Maria is “Puerta del Cielo”. “Mary”, consequently, is the name that evokes the saving work of God.
September 14 – Exaltation of the Santa Cruz
“Fiestation of the Exaltation of the Holy Cruz, which the day after the dedication of the Basilica of the Resurrection, erected on the sepulcher of Christ, is extolled and venerated as a pascual trophy of his victory and sign that will appear in heaven, announcing to all the second coming” (Roman martyrology).
September 15 – Our Lady of Dolores
“Memory of Our Lady of the Dolores, who stands next to the cross of Jesus, his son, was intimately and faithfully associated with his saving passion. It was the new Eva, which because of his admirable obedience contributed to life, contrary to what the first woman did, who for her disobedience brought death” (Roman martyrology).
September 17 – Santa Hildegarda de Bingen
Hildegarda was born in Bermersheim (currently Renania-Palatinin recognized spiritual authority. ” Santa Hildegarda was a writer, medical, composer, philosopher and mystical, in addition to Abadesa and founder of several monasteries. Pope Benedict XVI formally incorporated it into the saints of the Church, naming the doctor of the Church.
September 18 – San José de Cupertino
Giuseppe María (José María) DESC was born in 1603, in the town of Cupertino, Lecce region (Kingdom of Naples, Italy). He left as a legacy a great testimony of humility and confidence in prayer. After several setbacks caused by its fragilities and clumsiness, it was definitively admitted in the minor friars (Franciscans). Dedicated to the service of those looking for God, he was blessed with extraordinary gifts related to the attention of souls and mystique. Among those gifts is the ability to fly, power that God granted him to assist those in need more quickly.
September 19 – San Jenaro
“San Jenaro, Bishop of Benevento, martyr for Christ in Pozzuoli, near Naples, in Campania, in time of persecution against the Christian faith (s. IV)” (Roman martyrology). It is famous throughout the world due to the miracle that occurs until today with a portion of its blood that is preserved in Naples, the city of which it is pattern: it is the miracle of liquefaction (the clots that are preserved are made miraculously liquids).
September 21 – San Mateo Apostle
“Fiesta de San Mateo, Apostle and Evangelist, called previously Levi, who, when invited by Jesus to follow him, left his office as a publican or tax collector and, chosen among the apostles, wrote an gospel in which it is mainly proclaimed that Jesus Christ is the son of David, son of Abraham, fulfilling the Old Testament” (Roman martyrology).
September 23 – San Pío de Pietrelcina
“San Pío de Pietrelcina, (Francisco) Forgione, presbyter of the order of Capuchin younger brothers, who in the convent of San Giovanni Rotondo, in Apulia, dedicated himself to the spiritual direction of the faithful and the reconciliation of the penitents, showing particular attention to the poor and needy, ending in this day his earthly pilgrimage and configuring himself with Christ (1968) “(Roman Martyrology).
September 24 – Our Lady of Merced
This Marian invocation, as the name expresses, evokes the infinite mercy of God. “Merced” means “mercy”, “gift”, “grace”, “forgiveness.” God has left us in the Virgin Mary to a true mother, channel of grace and intercessor. The origins of this invocation date back to the thirteenth century, when the Virgin entrusted San Pedro Nolasco (1180-1256) to free the Christians who had fallen prisoners in the hands of the Saracenos.
September 29 – Arcángelles Miguel, Rafael, Gabriel
“Fiesta de los Santos Archangels Miguel, Gabriel and Rafael. On the day of the dedication of the Basilica under the title of San Miguel, on the Salary road, to six miliaries of Rome, the three archangels are held together, of whom the sacred writing reveals unique missions and that, serving God the day and night, and contemplating his face, to him glorify endlessly” (Roman martyrology).
September 30 – San Jerónimo
“Memory of San Jerónimo, presbyter and doctor of the Church, who, born in Dalmatia, studied in Rome, cultivating all the knowledge, and there he received Christian baptism. Then, captured by the value of contemplative life, he gave himself to the ascetic existence going to the East, where he was ordered from presbyter. Bethlehem of Judea lived a monastic life dedicated to translating and explaining the Holy Scriptures, revealing himself as a distinguished doctor.
