San Carlo Acutis and San Pier Giorgio Frassati: These are the dates on which the Church will celebrate them every year

The Catholic Church will commemorate the liturgical memory of San Carlo Acutis on October 12 and San Pier Giorgio Frassati on July 4. The two young people, models of simple holiness for millions of people, were canonized this Sunday in a massive ceremony held by Pope Leo XIV in Pedro’s Square.

In the case of Carlo Acutis, the Italian adolescent who died in 2006 and beatified in Assisi in October 2020, the celebration was established for October 12, coinciding with the anniversary of his death by a fulminating leukemia at age 15.

The Decree of the then Congregation – today Dicastery – for the divine cult, promulgated after beatification, set the date on the particular calendar of the Diocese of Assisi and Milan, in addition to authorizing its celebration in other communities that have requested it.

For his part, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Turin who died in 1925 and beatified by San Juan Pablo II in 1990, is commemorated every year on July 4, also coinciding, as usual, with the day of his death. The liturgy of his memory is celebrated especially in Italy and in youth communities that have him as a patron and spiritual reference.

Both blessed, remembered on dates linked to their transit to eternal life, have become referents of faith and commitment to young people. Acutis, known for his testimony of faith in the digital world and his love for the Eucharist, and Frassati, defined by San Juan Pablo II as the young “of the Biennials.” Its intense spiritual life and social commitment continue to inspire new generations of Catholics worldwide.
