Frutos was born in the year 642, into a rich family that had two other children: Valentín and Engracia. Upon the death of his parents, Frutos decided to separate himself from the world and live in solitude, prayer and penance. As his brothers wanted to support him, they sold the family possessions and got rid of their wealth, distributing everything among the poor. Afterwards, the brothers moved together to the banks of the Duratón River, where they finally settled.

At first they lived in natural caves, but later they built hermitages, as monks used to do. San Frutos died at the age of 75, in the year 715. His brothers buried him in the same place where he lived, today known as “Ermita de San Frutos”, next to which the famous monastery that bears the same name was built, and a cemetery

Later, without their older brother, Engracia and Valentín retired to the Caballar area, where they continued their life of solitude and prayer in the so-called “Ermita de San Zoilo”. The two remained there until the region was invaded by the Saracens. They took them prisoners and beheaded them.

After the event, the residents of the area moved the bodies of Engracia and Valentín along with the remains of Frutos, with the exception of their heads, which remained in the municipality of Caballar for veneration.

The relics of the three brothers remained in the Hermitage of San Frutos, near the current Sepúlveda, from the beginning of the 8th century to the 11th century. Today they are found in the altarpiece dedicated to the three Segovian saints, located in the rear choir of the Cathedral of Santa María in Segovia (Spain).
