On July 1, 1670 he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus. At the end of his first year of probation, he was sent as a missionary to a place near the Italian municipality of Otranto, to put into practice his preaching ability. There he confirmed his calling to be a voice announcing the joy of the Gospel. He wanted to be sent to distant places, but his superiors did not accept his requests and preferred that he remain in Naples. Francisco, obedient, understood that the Lord wanted him where he was and stopped insisting.

After 4 years preaching in small towns and completing his theology studies, his superiors appointed him preacher of the church of the New Jesus (The new church of Jesus) in Naples. His eloquent sermons, brief and energetic, moved many, stirring stagnant consciences and awakening the sense of faith. The Lord wrought many conversions through his words, especially among people who had hardened hearts and felt no guilt for their evil deeds.
