Saint of the day January 2: Saints Basil the Great and Gregory of Nazianzus. Catholic Saints

Gregory joined Saint Basil in the desire to follow Christ in the solitary life, and, like him, he also served as a priest. Certainly not everything was perfect harmony between the two, since each one had their own character, but they knew how to resolve their differences as good friends do:

Around the year 372, Saint Basil wanted to consecrate Gregory as bishop of Sasima, but that region constituted territory in dispute between the so-called “Two Cappadocias”. This produced tensions between both saints, which they overcome over time.

After touring several cities, Saint Gregory settled in Constantinople where he would be consecrated bishop. As a pastor, his fidelity earned him numerous sufferings due to the defamations promoted, paradoxically, by some well-known Christians and by those who did not miss any opportunity to generate attacks against Catholic doctrine, with the support of well-known heretics of the time.
