Gregory joined Saint Basil in the desire to follow Christ in the solitary life, and, like him, he also served as a priest. Certainly not everything was perfect harmony between the two, since each one had their own character, but they knew how to resolve their differences like good friends do:
Around the year 372, Saint Basil wanted to consecrate Gregory as bishop of Sasima, but that region constituted territory in dispute between the so-called “Two Cappadocias”. This produced tensions between both saints, which they overcome over time.
After touring several cities, Saint Gregory settled in Constantinople where he would be consecrated bishop. As a pastor, his fidelity earned him numerous sufferings due to the defamations promoted, paradoxically, by some well-known Christians and by those who did not miss any opportunity to generate attacks against Catholic doctrine, with the support of well-known heretics of the time.
