Saint of the day February 1: Saint Brigid of Kildare. Catholic Saints

Brigida, along with other consecrated virgins, settled in the city of Meath, where she put herself at the service of the poorest. There she worked many miracles, especially healings, among lepers, the mute and the blind. Saint Ella is credited with the ‘miracle of beer’, by which, from a single barrel, she would have supplied eighteen churches for a popular festival. Another version of the miracle simply states that she turned a barrel full of water into one full of beer.

It is true that the figure of Saint Brigid is surrounded by stories – like the one mentioned above – that have raised suspicions about the existence or historicity of the saint. However, in the face of such questions, today widely recognized evidence comes to light, such as the testimonies of figures of the time (5th and 6th centuries) totally independent of religious life or Christian faith. Finally, there are many historical records or sources that show how Saint Brigid was even considered a saint during her lifetime.
