Like every year, today, December 5, the Catholic Church remembers the figure of Saint Sabas of Cappadocia, famous monk of antiquity, disciple of Saint Euthymius the Great. For most of his life, between the 5th and 6th centuries, he resided in Palestine, dedicated to prayer, meditation, spiritual direction, and manual work.
From being raised by monks…
Sabas was born in Caesarea of Cappadocia (modern Turkey) in the year 439, during the Byzantine Empire. As his father belonged to the imperial army, he was summoned to go on campaign and had to leave Sabas in the care of his relatives.
