Every April 27, the Catholic Church celebrates Saint Zita of Lucca, domestic worker and religious, patron saint of domestic workers and all those who perform domestic services.
Zita was a woman of very humble status, so she had to work from a young age. She worked as a servant for one of the richest families in her area, so that she made some money and contributed to the support of her family. Her work brought difficulties and hardships at different times in her life that she knew how to face through her faith. Even though she was the target of ridicule and abuse, her love for God and his family was always greater, and helped him remain firm and grow in strength and trust in God.
In it Roman Martyrology It is noted: “In Luca, in Tuscany, Saint Zita, virgin, who, born from a humble home, at the age of twelve entered to serve the Fatinelli family, persevering until death with admirable patience in this domestic service ( 1278).
