Saint of the day April 12: San Giuseppe Moscati. Catholic Saints

Giuseppe Moscati died on April 12, 1927, close to turning 47, very young, after having dedicated his life to the service of those most in need. The inhabitants of Naples, most of whom knew him, began to refer to him as “the holy doctor.” In the end, sadly, it was the poorest who felt his loss the most.

Among the first to attend his funeral was Cardinal Ascalesi, who, after praying before the doctor’s coffin, told those present: “The doctor belonged to the Church; not to those of whom he healed the body, but of those of whom he saved the soul and who went out to meet him while he ascended to heaven.

Giuseppe Moscati was beatified in 1975 by Pope Saint Paul VI. He would later be canonized thanks to the miracle of the cure of young Giuseppe Montefusco from leukemia in 1979. Pope Saint John Paul II canonized him on October 25, 1987.
