Within the framework of the month dedicated to Santa Rosa de Lima, the Dominican parents of Peru presented the short film “Rose petals”, Which portrays the most emblematic moments of the life of Isabel Flores de Oliva, the first Saint of America.
In an interview with Ewtn News, the screenwriter and director of the film, Richard Morris, explained that the goal is to “highlight the virtues and the work of Rosa” and “demystify” certain visions away from historical reality.

“Rosa was a woman who, apart from the fact that she had a thousand trades – board, flower grower, lover and respectful of animals – also had a pious life because she always had the good will to serve the most dispossessed. And those are the things that stand out precisely in this short film,” he said.
The short film, released before the Universal de la Santa Fiesta (August 23) and the date on which it is celebrated in Peru (August 30), also addresses the difficulties that Rosa faced within her own home.
“The family, wanting the best for her, initially did not understand this life of surrender to God and tried to make her enter that seemed like an exaggerated devotion,” Morris explained.
The director recalled that Santa Rosa had as a spiritual reference to Santa Catalina de Siena and that, in a fictional recreation included in the tape, the Holy responds to those who called her of unbalanced: “If you look at me with current eyes, you will realize that at that time it was normal that those who wanted to travel by the path of holiness we did that kind of acts for benefit and to please our Lord.”
Morris stressed that production also shows little known aspects of the saint, such as her love of music. “She also composed, she liked music a lot, and there were some writings of her about it,” he said.
Finally, he expressed his satisfaction for paying tribute to the patron saint of the Americas and Peru: “We are very pleased to be able to spread the work of our beloved Santa Rosa de Lima. Although he only lived 31 years, he left us the message that it is always good to do good and serve others without looking at who.”
