Renault will manufacture a new medium SUV for Mercosur

After the presentation of the Kardian and the preview of the future compact pickup, Renault has just announced an investment of 380 million dollars in Brazil to produce a new SUV medium which will be marketed in Argentina and other markets in the region.

The vehicle, whose name has not yet been announced, will be the second – along with the Kardian – of the eight models that the brand will launch outside of Europe until 2027. The final version of the Niagara pickup is also added to the list.

The new SUV will sit above the compact Kardian and Duster. It will be manufactured at the Ayrton Senna Complex, in the state of Paraná, on the new modular platform (CMF-B) used in Kardian, while its launch is planned to follow that of the compact SUV (March 2024, in Brazil).

As it is a flexible platform, the model will measure between four and five meters long. The distance between axles, in turn, can vary between four options and range between 2.60 and 3 meters in length.

Renault did not provide much information about its specifications. Yes, it will use an engine produced at the Ayrton Senna Complex by Horse, a company dedicated to the development, production and manufacturing of the next generation of low emission hybrid engines. For this, a investment of 20.3 million dollars (100 million reais).

The French brand has invested 1.03 billion dollars (5.1 billion reais) from 2021 in Brazil.

Likewise, the Brazilian site AutoEsporte added that the model is likely to be equipped with the engine 1.3 turboflex the 170 CV which is already present in Duster and Oroch (Brazilian market).

Like the Kardian, Renault’s new midsize SUV will be launched globally in Brazil, from where it will be exported throughout the region. It is estimated that its production would begin at the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025.
