On August 20 and 21, the IX Health Congress “A path of hope for the elderly” will take place in Bogotá, organized by the little sisters of the poor San Pedro Claver and that will be attended by several experts.
Sister María de Jesús Alzate, of the little sisters of the poor of San Pedro Claver, explained to Aci Prensa that the motivation of Congress is “to train and support the people who are taking care of the elderly, either in their homes, either in homes of elders who have emerged, as well as health professionals.”

To do this, the conferences will be dictated healthy aging in an age society; Rights and legal protection of the elderly, ethics in the care of the elderly; and Artificial intelligence in the care of older people and self -care.
We will also talk about mental health between anxiety and depression; Strategies for managing resources as a means of financing and sustainability for the development of institutional projects; Impact of God’s spirituality and action on the aging process; and there will be a review of the 113 years of experience of the little sisters of the poor.
Interested persons can opt for the modality with or without lodging. For the first, the income will be on August 19 and the cost is 450,000 Colombian pesos. The cost without accommodation is 250,000 Colombian pesos.
The event will be at the San Pedro Claver Encounters house in Bogotá. Payments can be made to the Bancolombia Savings account 4462-2951-158, NIT: 860.020.290, in the name of the little sisters of the poor of San Pedro Claver.
Sister María de Jesús Alzate pointed out that among the difficulties facing the elders is “the abandonment by the family and by society, because everything today is disposable.”
“Few families see one that cares about the old man, who take them out, that take them to the sun, that take them to a park, with the basic needs. Many times they even have them hidden,” he said.
However, he highlighted the involvement of young people in the preparation of Congress, who are donating their time for the success of the event. In that sense, he encouraged interested people and institutions to register.
