The Passion of Christ: Resurrection
The Resurrectionthe long-awaited sequel to Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ (2004), does not have a confirmed release date, but is expected to be released worldwide on April 18, 2025, Good Friday. The film will be divided into two parts and will focus on the events that occurred during the three days between the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, exploring scenes in hell and key moments in Jerusalem. The production will feature part of the original cast, such as Jim Caviezel (Jesus), Maia Morgenstern (Mary) and Francesco De Vito (Saint Peter), and will be located in Israel, Morocco and Italy.
According to Edward Pentin, of the National Catholic Registerthe film “will cover step-by-step the events leading up to the resurrection as experienced by the Apostles, but will also follow the intrigues that took place in Herod’s palace and will end with the events that took place in Jerusalem on Easter Sunday.” .
Gibson has advanced in some interviews that the film will be visually ambitious, exploring other dimensions and times, moving away from a linear narrative.
season 5 of The Chosen
The long-awaited season 5 of The Chosen will hit theaters during Lent, in preparation for Easter 2025. Focused on the events of Holy Week, The Chosen: The Last Supper will premiere in three parts starting March 27, starting with episodes 1 and 2, followed by subsequent releases through April. After being shown in more than 40 countries, the complete season will be available on streaming platforms.
The new trailer offers glimpses of iconic moments such as Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, the cleansing of the temple and the betrayal of Judas. Creator Dallas Jenkins describes this season as “heartbreaking” as he approaches the cross.
Holiness Kit: The Path to God by Carlo Acutis
This is a new film that will present the spiritual legacy of the future saint, known as the “cyberapostle of the Eucharist.” Directed by Gaby Jácoba and produced by Ave María Films and Hollywood Catholic Films, the docufilm narrates the seven steps that Carlo proposed as a path to holiness, showing how it is possible to live a modern and ordinary life without losing the deep love of God, with the Eucharist as center.
The film, shot in Assisi and other cities, features the participation of figures such as Carlo’s mother, Antonia Salzano, Dr. Ricardo Castañón Gómez and the priest Father Borre. Its world premiere will coincide with the canonization of the young man, expected during the 2025 Jubilee in Rome.
Zoe’s Miracle: The Secret Behind the Miraculous Medal
The film tells the story of Saint Catherine Labouré, known in her childhood as Zoe, a humble young French woman who, after the loss of her mother, sought refuge in the protection of the Virgin. In the midst of the challenges she experienced on the family farm, Catalina witnessed miraculous events that would mark the birth of one of the most beloved devotions: the Miraculous Medal. The film reveals how the Virgin entrusted Catherine with this sacred design, destined to shower graces on all those who receive it with faith.
Based on authentic writings by Catherine Labouré and her confessor, the film “seeks to reveal not only the miraculous events of her life, but also the devotion and humility of a woman whose spiritual legacy endures to this day.” points out the official site.
The Saints
In 2025, another of the most anticipated releases is The Saints (Los Santos), a docudrama series presented, narrated and produced by Martin Scorsese for the Fox Nation streaming service. In eight episodes, the legendary director chronicles the lives of iconic saints such as Joan of Arc, Maximilian Kolbe, Francis of Assisi and Mary Magdalene. This project, which combines dramatizations with historical footage, is a tribute to the lives of those who dedicated their lives to Jesus and a deepening of the meaning of holiness.

The documentary translated into Spanish as Roadmap to reality: Carlo Acutis and our digital age explores the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis and his message for young people in the digital age. This production, which will premiere in spring 2025, directed by Castletown Media and Catholic filmmaker Jim Wahlberg, combines interviews, acting and animation, delving into topics such as artificial intelligence and the spiritual disconnection of today’s world.
The film, inspired by the devotion of young people and families, includes testimonies from Carlo’s mother, Antonia Salzano, who states: “The real tragedy is not being disconnected from the internet, but from God.” Additionally, it follows a group of students who make a pilgrimage to Carlo’s grave, giving up their phones as a gesture of digital disconnection.
“The King of Kings”
The King of Kings is an animated film from Angel Studios about the relationship between the English writer Charles Dickens and his son, Walter. Motivated by the intention of rebuilding the bond with his son, Dickens shares the most inspiring story of all: the life of Jesus. Through Walter’s vivid imagination, the story comes to life from the humble birth in Bethlehem to the miracles, sacrifices, and resurrection.
The film features the voices of Hollywood stars such as Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Forest Whitaker, Ben Kingsley and Roman Griffin Davis.
It will be released in theaters on April 11, 2025.
